About the Author
Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was born in the small village of Kraljevec, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now in Croatia), where he grew up. As a young man, he lived in Weimar and Berlin, where he became a well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar, known especially for his work with Goethe’s scientific writings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he began to develop his early philosophical principles into an approach to systematic research into psychological and spiritual phenomena. Formally beginning his spiritual teaching career under the auspices of the Theosophical Society, Steiner came to use the term Anthroposophy (and spiritual science) for his philosophy, spiritual research, and findings. The influence of Steiner’s multifaceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, various therapies, philosophy, religious renewal, Waldorf education, education for special needs, threefold economics, biodynamic agriculture, Goethean science, architecture, and the arts of drama, speech, and eurythmy. In 1924, Rudolf Steiner founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world. He died in Dornach, Switzerland.

Ruth Pusch, born Ruth Barnett, was raised in New Haven, Connecticut. After a period of time spent in Dornach, Switzerland, as a student of spiritual science, she married the actor Hans Pusch in 1932 while in the U.S. Together, they returned to Dornach, where Ruth studied eurythmy with some of the pioneers of that new art form. She later taught eurythmy in New York City and was an early teacher at the Waldorf School New York City. She and her husband were also active in bringing the anthroposophic impulse to the dramatic arts in North America. Along with Hans, Ruth Pusch also helped translate Rudolf Steiner’s four mystery plays.

Partners of the Heart is Thomas's extraordinary autobiography. Trained in laboratory techniques by Alfred Blalock and Joseph W. Beard, Thomas remained Blalock's principal technician and laboratory chief for the rest of Blalock's distinguished career. Thomas very rapidly learned to perform surgery, to do chemical determinations, and to carry out physiologic studies. He became a phenomenal technician and was able to carry out complicated experimental cardiac operations totally unassisted and to devise new ones.

In addition to telling Thomas's life story, Partners of the Heart traces the beginnings of modern cardiac surgery, crucial investigations into the nature of shock, and Blalock's methods of training surgeons.

About the Author
Vivien T. Thomas, a high school graduate, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Johns Hopkins University and was made a member of the medical school faculty in recognition of his contributions to the practice of cardiovascular surgery and to the education of young surgeons. Partners of the Heart is the autobiography of this extraordinary man who struggled against overwhelming odds and achieved international recognition.

If you've seen the movie, now read the book

In this book you will hear from Vivien Thomas himself. As wonderful as the movie was, it did take some dramatic license here and there. Vivien tells the story of the first "blue baby" operation very matter of factly. As you read the book you will discover that he played things pretty close to the vest. He was not one for dramatic outbursts or fits of temper. Thomas is a dignified quite man and his relation with Dr. Blalock was not all sweetness and light but they worked well togehter and became very close.

There is a lot of medical talk in the book. The squeemish may have trouble getting through the accounts of the experiments that were performed on the dogs. Don't let that stop you from reading this book. It gives you a wonderful insight into this modest, unassuming but brilliant doctor. He never went to medical school but taught some of the finset surgeons in the world how to operate. Happily, Thomas was finally given an honorary doctorate by Johns Hopkins.

If you have seen the movie, don't expect this book to play out the same way. This is real life.

The recent research domain of asteroseismology studies the internal structure of stars, which is not directly observable, through the interpretation of the frequency spectra of stellar oscillations. The basic principles of asteroseismology are very similar to those developed by earth seismologists. Stellar interiors can be probed from oscillations because different oscillation modes penetrate to different depths inside the star. Asteroseismology is the only available method to derive the internal structure of the stars with high precision.

This book – the first on asteroseismology – offers a practical guide for graduate students and scientists working in stellar astrophysics. It provides a general introduction to asteroseismology and comprehensive coverage of all its aspects: fundamental theory, observations and observational techniques, methodology of data analysis and seismic interpretations of various classes of multi-periodic pulsating stars.

About the Author

Conny Aerts is full professor at the University of Leuven, Belgium, as well as professor by special appointment on the Chair Asteroseismology, University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. J�rgen Christensen-Dalsgaard is full professor of helio- and asteroseismology at Aarhus University, Denmark. Don Kurtz is full professor at the University of Central Lancashire, UK.
Their collective expertise encompasses all aspects of asteroseismology. All three authors are experienced lecturers and participate in numerous scientific committees. Considering the options, not bad

There aren't very many options for learning Telugu available. Given the limitations, this book is definitely worth the price. The claim that you will learn in 30 days is not accurate. The book is very small, almost a pamphlet, and is limited in content. You can pick up some useful vocabulary, but not enough to have a real conversation. The verb tenses are covered, but there is no discussion of irregular verbs, which in my limited knowlege don't appear to be rare. There are no discussions of sentence structure, or grammatical patterns, such as the way many adjectives seem to be completely altered when used to describe an object. I'm still trying to figure that out. Another problem is that in the phrase section of the book, the words run together without spaces between. This makes it very hard to figure out which part of the sentence is what, and reverse engineer the grammar.

This book is a bit smaller than I anticipated, but the content is good. I couldn't rate it 5 stars because of the grammatical errors the book contained. There is, however, a lot of vocabulary, just what I was asking for. There is an explaination of the Telugu alphabet in the front. It would be helpful to the reader to have some prior experience with foreign languages, like French or Malayalam, or even Korean and Arabic. It's half way filled with vocabulary, like Bride, boy, girl, and street, a third in the native Telugu script, a third in it's roman equivalent, for example, kalamu for pen, and a third in English. The third part of the book contains sentences to use and paragraphs to read, like "What is your name" and "When did you see Rama". There is also a small dictionary in the back.

Over all it's a good book because I just wanted a ton of vocabulary. An authors opinion ongoing throughout a book and cultural lessons have their place, but I just want to know what to say.

Also, the price is a bit expensive. I actually bought this book at the library for 25 Cents, instead of the $18 it has posted on the back.

you probably would be better served finding a phrasebook

Very underwhelming.

This book isn't well printed. It is very difficult to read some of the lettering as some are smudged, and others are very faint. Though I wasn't expecting a phrasebook, this certainly doesn't prepare someone for how to even construct a sentence in Telugu (Subject, Object, Verb). Unless you plan to order plantains by the dozen or ask how much milk someone requires, you probably would be better served finding a phrasebook.

On the plus side, the book does spend some time on grammar, though it is laid out very poorly for someone who hasn't studied foreign languages in the past. Thankfully, that was a non-issue for me.

At least the book is cheap!

I LOVE BENNETT KLEIN'S DRAWINGS! I have all of his books. This has become my instant favorite. It is a book I plan to color EVERY SINGLE IMAGE. Have you any other books in your collection you can say that about? As an owner of over 150 coloring books, I average about three "must color pages." Color every image? Unheard of. Yes This book is THAT good. I love that Bennett has adjusted these drawings to assist the colorist. Clearer and bolder boundaries/lines. Huge variety of content matter. It is a book that every level can color. There is literally something for everyone! I am a marker queen- not a pencil colorist- and this is great for markers as well as pencils. You can't go wrong. I have included the first three pages I have colored as inspiration. You will not be disappointed! If you are a fan of animals, fantasy and surrealism. This book is the eye candy your brain has been craving!
