I'm still trying to make sense of it.

This is a book about a boy who bases his whole life off of a few desires, gets what he wants, and realizes that it isn't so good after all. The story itself has no real plot line, but I can guarantee that it will make an impact on the reader. Just a warning: Rusty-James, the main character, is not very smart. If you want to read about someone you can look up to, this book is not for you.

S.E.Hinton is a great writer. The story was great, but the ending happened in the last 2 chapters. The ending was a little too fast for me. I would have liked to see it last.

Good book at an excellent price and fast delivery, but a newer edition is out.

It's exactly what I expected; I have earlier editions that I use frequently. It was at a good price and was delivered quickly. Supposedly, there was some use and/or damage, but it looks in brand-new condition to me. My only reason for giving it four stars rather than five is that an even newer version came out earlier this year, and there was no mention that this was no longer the latest edition.

About the Author
Michael C. Keith, Ph.D., ranks among the most prolific authors on the subject of broadcast media, in particular radio. He is a member of the Communication Department at Boston College and is author of over twenty books, including Voices in the Purple Haze, Signals in the Air, Talking Radio, Radio Cultures, and Sounds in the Dark. With Robert Hilliard he has co-authored The Broadcast Century and Beyond, Waves of Rancor, Dirty Discourse, Global Broadcasting Systems, and The Hidden Screen. With Christopher Sterling he co-authored Sounds of Change: FM Broadcasting in America. In addition, he is the author of numerous journal articles and has served in a number of editorial positions. He is the past Chair of Education for the Museum of Broadcast Communications, the inaugural chair of the Broadcast Education Association's Radio Division, and a former broadcaster. He is the recipient of several honors, including the Distinguished Scholar Award given by the Broadcast Education Association in 2008, and the Stanton Fellow Award given by the International Radio Television Society. Excellent Intro to the 'World' of Radio

As an former DJ, I've wondered about the state of radio in this day and age. Michael Keith has done an excellent job of capturing it with this book. Mr Keith does a great job of describing radio's history, from its humble beginnings to today's world of culture of deregulation and consolidation, as well as also describing all the various departments and jobs within a station. I wish there'd been a book like this around when I was an announcer.

There are chapters devoted to programming (and various formats), sales, news, and research (always important facets that folk don't always think about), promotion, commercial production, even one on engineering (let us never forget the job the sometimes underappreciated engineers perform).

If you want to get into radio broadcasting or (like me) have an interest in the field and where it's headed you need to get this book.

Great Introduction to Radio

If you want to know what the radio industry is all about read this book. It is written by a veteran in the field who has published extensively on the subject, presented research at conferences, and worked in the radio business before entering academe. Dr. Keith knows the business.
He traces trends and provides historical perspective on how things came to be as they are. Station managers would find this to be a useful resource manual. There are all kinds of subjects covered that they would face on a daily basis.
I recommend this book. I've used it in teaching at the university level over the years. Student feedback has been positive.

But change came quickly. Television became a staple of modern life in the 1950s offering Elvis, the evening news, and a vivid view of our changing world. School consolidations robbed towns of their souls, supermarkets eliminated the need for corner grocery stores, and the closings of mills and factories brought an end to small towns as we knew them. The generation whose story is told in this book grew up in the last small town in America.

Bob Barnett is a lifelong resident of West Virginia. He taught sports history for thirty-five years at Marshall University, and has written more than 300 articles, for a wide variety of periodicals and journals, including Saturday Evening Post, Sports Heritage Magazine, West Virginia s Goldenseal Magazine, and the Dallas Cowboy News.

loved it all

I'll begin with a disclaimer--I know the author. That out of the way, anybody who grew up from the late 40s to mid-60s will recognize, laugh at, and weep about these snapshots of a lost way of life. Barnett is not simply nostalgic; he is undertstanding and articulate about why things changed. He is also generous about all the people in his small town who made it a great place to grow up. That is, this not a solipsistic account of what Barnett did, but a contextual recounting of how what he did fit into the rhythms of small town America. If you don't want to cry when he talks about getting on the wrong bus as a seven year old or want to cheer when he catches his first high school touchdown pass, you are a cold-hearted wretch beyond redemption.

What? no more small towns

The author, Bob Barnett did a nice job of sharing his stories, feelings and humor especially on teen dating and attending prom. I was curious to see how he validated "the last small town" and found his explanation solid. How nice it was to reminesce and laugh while reading this book.

I am proud to say that I grew up in Small Town America and am pleased and proud to see these stories of my home town area in print and selling so well. Thank you Bob Barnett for bringing Newel, Chester and all of the Northern Panhandle of Wonderful West Virginia into print so that others can know of the charm of living on the banks of the great Ohio River and being residents in an area of hard working , Christian, caring people!! Blessings to You !
My parents worked at Homer Laughlin Pottery, Hall China, Taylor ,Smith & Taylor and many more in the area. I have wonderful memories of my childhood in Chester and am glad these are being shared with people everywhere.

Good rather oldfashioned Zorro!

I love all the great new artists like Jason Shawn Alexander, Mike Mignola, Frusin and many others but my heart beats in a special way when Esteve Polls (The Lone Ranger) does the art because it gives memories to good old Dell Comics and Classics Illustrated. Polls is close to the art of John Severin and that is super. The story is good and the coloring so fine. It is great to ride with Zorro Again!

What can I say? Of all the 'Heroes' real, legendary or fictional........'Zorro' has always been one of...if not the best of them all. Thanks again........for reminding me why he was always one of my favorite childhood heroes.

About the Author
Bixio Rimoldi is a Professor at the �cole Polytechnique F�d�rale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, where he developed an introductory course on digital communication. Previously he was Associate Professor at Washington University and took visiting positions at Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley. He is an IEEE fellow, a past president of the IEEE Information Theory Society, and a past director of the communication system program at EPFL.
