Michael Mitchell is associate professor at the School of Politics and Global Studies, Arizona State University. His research focuses on democratization in Latin America and the politics of ethnic minorities.

Why waste money on hardcover ever again???

Ok, I have always bought hard cover texts, however needed to save money as I'm taking Micro for the summer (7 week course), so it just makes sense. The a la carte is in color and has the exact same pages as the hardback. I compared it to my classmates and they only wished they had saved as much money as I had! It's so convenient, I just take the chapter pages that we are reading in class, also...it came with Mastering, so I can download the e-text onto my iPad and bring it instead! I love it!

Easy read and one of my favorite textbooks but I needed extra help for exams so I got the test bank for this textbook. Little did i know at the time that professors use the test banks for exam questions (my final came directly from it). If you need it to study, let me know and I'll send it to you =)

About the Author
Rosary O'Neill is the author of 21 plays most published by Samuel French, Inc. O'Neill was founding artistic director at Southern Rep Theater from 1987 to 2002. Her play "Uncle Victor" won a signing at the Consulate General Germany in New York in 2011. Recent playwriting fellowships include: the Norman Mailer House, Cape Cod, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Ireland, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts (Sweetbriar fellow), and the Sanskriti residency near New Delhi, India. O'Neill also was a Fulbright fellow to Germany and Paris. She is a fellow of the Actors Studio Workshop and Linsey Abrams Advanced Writing workshop. Her plays have been featured in Rattlestick Theatre, NYC; American Center, Paris; Chamber Theatre, Budapest, and the Brotfabrik Theatre, Bonn. She is playwright-in-residence at the National Arts Club, where her recent work has been developed.

Wonderful book for amateurs and pros

I've been acting and directing in school/college and community theatre for over 30 years. I've taken college courses in directing and acting classes at professional theatres and have read many of the standard books on acting (Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, etc.). The Actor's Checklist is one of the best, most accessible books on the subject that I've read. O'Neill's book is different from a lot of books on acting in that it takes the theory from those standard texts and leads the actor by the hand in applying that theory to their work in the rehearsal process, both at home and onstage. In fact, one of the emphases of the book is that work must be done offstage (i.e., homework) as well as onstage. So many times, especially in community theatre, actors do not do any thinking about their characters, and they certainly don't spend much time or energy working on their parts when away from the theatre. I hope to use much of what I've learned from The Actor's Checklist both when I'm acting and when I'm directing.

Wonderful in every way but the price tag

An excellent workbook for experienced and beginning actors. Much more than a 'checklist', it can be used as a class textbook or a personal aid to creating the complete character. There's nothing new in here, just a very fine compilation of the best methods and techniques, logically arranged, complete with exercises for each section. This is definitely my favorite resource for my own acting work. The only disappointment is the price. I would like to make this the required text book for my adult students, but I feel the cost is too high. $12-$15 would be more appropriate.

Fantastic Book for Actors

I'm an actor working my way up to earning an Oscar someday. To be a high caliber actor you must keep your instrument in tip top shape and you must know how to act inside and out. While this book is one of the tools that will help your maintain and even expand your capabilities I recommend it to all actors from beginner to veteran. It's a very easy read, chapters are short because what you'll need to do is let the information sink in. I've read it 3 times over sense getting it from Amazon. I will probably read it 50 more times too. Strongly recommend.
