There's nothing like forbidden love...

It seems that many of us tend to grab for what we're not supposed to have. I know that I have done this all of my life. If you tell me that I can't have something, it makes me want it with a passion. Shakespeare played off of this theme quite well with "Romeo and Juliet", as does author Kennedy Claire in "My Best Friend's Brother".

The amazingly suspenseful story of Scarlett and Dev, two (older) teens who fall passionately for each other yet come up against some pretty formidable obstacles. Scarlett is from the wrong side of the tracks and is fortunate in having a best friend with a generous family who takes her into their home for her senior year of high school. The Bashir family is not only wealthy, but quite traditional, so when it becomes known that their older son, Dev, has fallen for Scarlett, life gets complicated for all involved. There are some other mitigating factors involved in the story, that I won't name as spoilers, that kept this very interesting.

I loved this book from start to finish. In fact, I read the entire thing in one sitting which is quite unusual for me. Forbidden love is a great theme for any story and Claire pulls this off very well with the traditional family dynamic adding a great element to the story. As a reader, you want so badly for these two to make things work against the odds and I closed the final page feeling very satisfied with a solid read.

A Delightful Read

This is a lovely and sweet romantic book. It made my heart smile and I enjoyed it so much. The unexpected events, the forbidden passion held by two very different people. Scarlett is a delightful character, strong and yet wanting to be loved and adored. Dev, her best friend's brother who tormented her and made her feel less than human, all the while hiding his real feelings. It is a diverse group of characters, but they matched the story perfectly. The details are clear and I was pulled into the lives of all of them. I could not stop reading it until it ended, and I wanted more. I am a hopeless romantic and this is one of the best books I have read. I can not wait to read the next book of this series. The author, Kennedy Claire did a superb job and the passion and love of life and writing shine through and I look forward to reading more of her work. I definitely recommend this book to all who love romance and the search of true love.

A Good Read, But Needs Development

3.5 Stars. Overall, I enjoyed this story. I appreciated the shorter length. Short stories are very under appreciated. I felt the author's use of first person was well done. I also felt the ethnicity of the story was handled nicely.

But ... I could not decide if I liked the characters. I liked Scarlett most of the time, but as the story progressed, she became frustrating. I wanted her to ask more questions, speak up, and not cower all the time. Dev was fascinating. I liked his hard edges, the sultriness of him. I liked the author's use of his journal entries to include his POV. That was well done.

The formatting of the book had flaws. There were numerous simple editing errors, wrong choice or tense of word, spelling mistakes, and missing words that a good editor could have found. I also was very peeved with the extra material from book 2 in the back. This is a sales technique I personally don't care for.

The storyline itself had ups and downs for me. Though the pace of it moved along nicely and kept my interest, it was more erotic than I feel is appropriate for young adults. I do not know if it is being marketed as such, but I would say it isn't appropriate for anyone under eighteen. Setting aside my own morals on teens and sex, less needed to be said of the details of their encounter. Sex should NEVER be the core point of the story. I do not feel it was entirely the issue in this tale, but it was made much more of than I think was needed to make the author's point.

Lastly, the ending came up too quickly. This is not a reference to length, but to scenes. More time should have been given to her recovery from her dad's death and the troubled relationship between she and Dev. The marriage proposal, though I understand it's placement and figure the author deliberately kept the story short in order to write book two, seemed hastily written and, if given more time to develop before lopping the end off, the story would have been much better.

I will not read book 2 as the preview told me enough that it isn't warranted. I am not totally turned off by this book or this author, but cannot recommend it because of sexual content.

I bought the first edition of GAPS Guide years ago when our family was first trying to heal allergies with the GAPS protocol and there wasn't nearly the information and experience available online that there is now. I found it very helpful. Our family did the GAPS protocol for a few months, and then we stopped for various reasons.

When I wanted to come back and do GAPS again, I saw that Baden had published a 2nd edition, and I bought the new edition. She has clearly put in a huge amount of love and work -- it's about twice as long, with so much more information. It's NOT just a little update here and there.

I have since recommended it to anyone who is trying to implement GAPS. Badens own story of healing herself and her son is inspiring, and her clear advice to preparing for and implementing GAPS makes it so much less overwhelming.

Her writing is like an encouraging and gentle yet firm friend who takes you by the hand and guides you along this path of healing.

Gaps Guide and Gut and Psychology Syndromes by Dr Campbell McBride are saving my life.

The way to cure the causes of health issues; starting from the guts! There is no better way to cure yourself but it is a lot of work. I've been doing it for 2 months and my health has improved a little already. The "moto" here is to go very. very slowly with incorporating food and most of all fermentation/probiotics otherwise the die-off is way too strong. every bit of food you try out is a go low and slow. Before starting the diet, read the book at least twice, it is a lot of information to take in all at once and to put in practice. The author is wonderful and you can communicate with her on her site if you have any issues or question. Many thanks to Baden Lashkov's support!

Make the Time . . . .

There are so many Santa Claus storybooks available that it is hard to make the right choice when purchasing one for a beloved grandchild. I wanted a book that was traditional, upbeat, NEW and interesting. Boy did I find one! After a long day of visiting relatives we decided to cuddle up with some hot chocolate and read their new book. The children, ages 3 and 5, loved the story and were able to identify with some of the activities depicted in the beautiful illustrations. The kids liked the fact that the story was written using 'words' that they use with their friends. I liked the fact that good values and manners were being taught in such a fun and interesting way. The story definitely held the kids attention and it gave me an opportunity to share a special gift with my grandchildren - uninterrupted time filled with love and closeness.
You will thank yourself for making the time to read this 'awesome' little book to someone you love.

Hot Chocolate for Santa Claus

This is a wonderful book that celebrates the happy traditions of Christmas and introduces an new idea that Mrs. Claus has a party for all the elves when they return with Santa after delivering all the presents. This story will make children feel excited to put out a special treat for Santa on Christmas Eve. The illustrations are excellent. Moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers will have fun reading this book and enjoying the illustrations with their children and grandchildren. There is a extra bonus. Hot Chocolate for Santa Claus teaches the importance of saying, "thank you". This would make a great Christmas gift for children ages 3 to 7 !

It is certainly not horrible, but it is rather abrubt

This book is charming. I read it to my fourth graders this year, and even those students who considered themselves "too old" for this sort of book were completely enchanted. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and the idea of Santa Claus getting a thank you note inspired our class to write thank you notes of our own. The only reason that I am giving it four stars instead of five stars is for the ending. It is certainly not horrible, but it is rather abrubt. It almost seemed as though the author wasn't quite certain how to end the story, and simply ended with "Christmas is awesome!" While it went unnoticed by my students, I felt that it was a bit awkward. All in all, this is a lovely book to add to your holiday library.

JALEN ROSE is an ABC/ESPN analyst, executive producer of The�Fab Five—the highest-rated documentary in ESPN history—and host of the Jalen�Rose Report on Grantland and the Jacoby Podcast. Rose began his sports career at the University of Michigan where he reached two NCAA title games, and then went on to play for six teams in the NBA, most notably the Indiana Pacers when they made three consecutive Eastern Conference finals, including the 2000 NBA Finals. Didn't give the people what they want.

I was really looking forward to this book and the content was overwhelming. Like most memoirs, the author wrote about his life and how he got to where he is now. There are a few opinions interjected into parts of the book, but nothing I would consider flagrant. Jalen uses this book to set the record straight on a few of the controversial events that he has been involved in.
For someone who has so many issues with the NCAA (most involving money) he has few too few suggestions to fix it. I believe he gives two potential fixes as examples.
Jalen had lived an interesting life, but there's not a lot here that is new, especially those who listen to his podcast. There's barely enough here for a book, but at least Jalen can say he is an author now.

Love Jalen Rose

Love Jalen Rose, his podcasts, on-air stuff, etc. This book was all stories that we've heard on the podcast, and very rarely did the stories go deeper than what was already public knowledge. When we got to the Knicks chapter I was almost salivating at the stories that were to come, and then there was nothing. A quick read, but be prepared to not get much more insight than you already have if you're a fan of Jalen.

Got what I paid for, yo

This book is pure candy for basketball nerds like me. I cannot recommend the audiobook version enough, which is narrated by Jalen himself, which gives it a similar edge than listening to the Jalen and Jacoby podcast. I don't want to make a bad pun here, but the book was everything I wanted it to be: a complete, exhaustive breakdown of what it is to be an NBA player, from birth to retirement. It's what Jalen provides and Good God, didn't he do it with absolute style or what?

There's an editorial aspect to this book I really liked also, which contains quips about the NCAA and infamous head coach Larry Brown among others, as well as segments on Jalen's relationship to his father Jimmy Walker and the freakin' SCHOOL he created, the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy. How is that for winning the game of life and changing the world? Guy FOUNDED A SCHOOL. IN DETROIT. Seriously, if you love basketball about 10% as much as I do, you'll love this book. It's about as fun and enlightening as celebrity memoirs can get.

Kurt H. Albertine, Ph.D., is Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine, and Neurobiology and Anatomy in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr, Albertine received a bachelor's degree in biology from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, and a doctoral degree in human anatomy from Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. He received post-doctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, Cardiovascular Research Institute. Dr. Albertine has taught human gross anatomy for more than 30 years and is the Editor-in-Chief of The Anatomical Record.

Great for Lab Practicals!

This helped me tremendously for studying for my lab practical exams (bones and muscles). It has all the needed detail while keeping it simple as to not detract from the task at hand. Great product, highly recommended.

This might just make studying fun again!

This is a nice book! As a nursing student, I am always on the lookout for something to make studying more fun and I think this might be just the thing! I like that it is spiral bound. This will make it very easy to use. It had really cool transparent pages with overlays of the different systems of the body which is a neat feature I didn't expect. I fully recommend this book!

No other book compares

I've looked at alot of Anatomy Coloring books and this one is far superior. It is absolutely the best. First it is spiral bound. Second the drawings are very clear and large using several plates for each area with zoom in drawings. Third it provides a "study" mode encouraging the student to label each drawing while coloring with the correct answers on the bottom of the page. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of this book and the value of the large uncluttered drawings. I wish it was around 30 years ago when I was in nursing school, but was thrilled to find it for my pre-pharmacy daughter.
